The Galen Institute’s Grace-Marie Turner reports that

Obamacare will require employers to evaluate their health plans’ affordability by calculating each employee’s household income, not just that worker’s individual wages. This likely will involve, at a minimum, collecting income declarations from every staff member.

Remember what happened to out-of-wedlock births when welfare programs were rolled out and the laws on divorce and marriage changed over time … it was not pretty.

This could be a legendary textbook example of unintended consequences.

    Uh Huh.

What happens if one employs Guisseppe Palermo, son of Donald (Don) Palermo, of Staten Island, New York? (My apologies to Wintercow for stereotyping.) Is the employer expected to question why 23-year-old Gus drives a Porsche Carrera and wears a vicuna overcoat? Is the degree of diligence supposed to be greater than the employer requiring the person to be a citizen, or having a green card? Or a driver’s learner’s permit?

“Mr. Palermo, would you mind as I check your references submitting any additional information about your father’s business dealings that might bear on your qualifications for government-run health insurance? Oh, I take it as it is not my f—– business that you decline? And how may I pay for the insurance your father sells?”
