I’m Sure the Double Entendre was Unintended
June 27, 2011 Environment

On corporations, clean energy, and the corrupt political process:

Explaining this mystery (why Big Oil is not investing more heavily in renewables) may bring us back to where we started. In the childlike enchantment we’ve lived under since the Reagan era, we’ve wanted very much to believe that someone else, some wavy-haired CEO, would do the hard, adult work of problem solving. In fact, corporations are the infants in our society — they know very little except how to grow (though they’re very good at that), and they howl when you set limits. Socializing them is the work of politics. It’s about time we took it up again.

That from the Bill McKibben Reader, p.171.

  1. Wrong thread but interesting nonetheless: http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S2171728.shtml?cat=566

  2. What a vast gulf separates us. It is tough to understand how some folks view a free world, as if it were the waterhole twenty thousand years ago. That quotation was breathtaking in ignorance, Wintercow. Not that I have the answer for anything. I am just hoping a hamburger at the club does not cost twenty dollars a few years from now, and we do not get World War III soon.
