Just An Isolated Incident for Sure
October 17, 2011 Government Gone Wild

I finished the book the Hockey Stick Illusion recently but have decided not to blog it. It’s worth a read, particularly if you are interested in the very nitty gritty details of how temperature reconstructions are done, and the shenanigans that took place within the research community over the last 15 years.

Now I wake up to read this:

CEI has learned of a UN plan recently put in place to hide official  correspondence on non-governmental accounts, which correspondence a federal inspector general has already confirmed are subject to FOIA. This ‘cloud’ serves as a dead-drop of sorts for discussions by U.S. government employees over the next report being produced by the scandal-plagued IPCC, which is funded with millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars.

Of course Anthony Watt (updated! thanks to comments, I called him Andrew in original).  is considered to be misleading, evil and every kind of awful by the climate community. But he is one of a few people who track these things regularly. I follow the two major climate sites fairly regularly: first from the consensus and second the denier site of Steve McIntyre.

Have a lovely day.

  1. Wow, that Stiglitz story. Ouch! 🙂

  2. Minor points:

    1. Anthony Watts

    2. Neither Steve McIntyre, nor the site Climate Audit, are “deniers”

  3. Nobody denies climate change occurs, or is occurring. Many believe that since the days of Shakespeare that by fits and starts the late twentieth century is warmer than during the Revolutionary War (pick your revolution if you are French), or during the Civil War (pick your own war if you are Spanish, Indonesian, Vietnamese, etc.).

The fact is we do not know, because of the limitations of measurement. Even after built airplanes and airports, the data are meager, precise to plus or minus a degree at best, and depended on how the pilot read and reported the temperature in Oklahoma City at noon that day back in 1940. Deniers or affirmers of predictions that are based on such limited data have the slightest anecdotal basis for their beliefs.

For the sake of simplifying the argument, I, Wintercow, ExxonMobil, and other learned institutions and scholars, have stipulated that things seem to have been getting warmer, and if senators want to say it has been half a degree since Grandpappy was born, let’s set that aside.

The IPCC does not care about any of this. The organization is composed of countries representing many interests, with a common theme of hobbling (France, Germany) the United Stattes, or getting money (France, Germany, and the rest of the world).

I doubt carbon dioxide, whether burned by my Cadillac or burned outside a hut to produce charcoal for a cooking fire, has much effect on the environment, nor am I worried about the population bomb. I am worried about the Islamic Bomb.

  4. Meant to say produced by the combustion of hydrocarbons, including at least 10% ethanol from my Cadillac, my Weber grill, my fireplace, or my cigar.
