It is serially infuriating reading what amounts to “journalism” anymore. In an AP article on the decision of the Supreme Court to hear the ObamaCare cases, the author claims,
“in America, a nation disdainful of big government and historically unable to guarantee affordable basic coverage to all its citizens.”
People like me are disdainful of big government. By writing it this way the author makes it seem like folks like me have been successful in preventing its growth. FAIL. And the author better be honest next time he writes – he means the government is unable to offer affordable basic coverage to all citizens. It is an easy thing to do even right now, especially if “basic coverage” means 1985-style health care, even at today’s prices.
It’s really, really tiring. Oh, did I mention that in a class on Nursing Science that students are forced to watch and respond to questions about this. The default view prevails in just about every place one looks on campus these days. I used to call the conservatives who complained about this a bunch of cranks. But they have a point. I am paying well over $20,o00 per year to have someone learn the skills required to be a nurse, and instead they are learning about how Ronald Reagan destroyed America. It’s funny how that same line is used across the curriculum. What will folks do after the next 16 years of Democrat rule and a devolution into European style crises? Will Reagan’s “culture” of capitalism still be to blame? Or even now, folks, he left office in 1988. Do you want to tell me that 23 years is not enough time to “fix” it?
