What We Say vs What We Do
November 15, 2011 Education

It is serially infuriating reading what amounts to “journalism” anymore. In an AP article on the decision of the Supreme Court to hear the ObamaCare cases, the author claims,

“in America, a nation disdainful of big government and historically unable to guarantee affordable basic coverage to all its citizens.”

People like me are disdainful of big government. By writing it this way the author makes it seem like folks like me have been successful in preventing its growth. FAIL. And the author better be honest next time he writes – he means the government is unable to offer affordable basic coverage to all citizens. It is an easy thing to do even right now, especially if “basic coverage” means 1985-style health care, even at today’s prices.

It’s really, really tiring. Oh, did I mention that in a class on Nursing Science that students are forced to watch and respond to questions about this. The default view prevails in just about every place one looks on campus these days. I used to call the conservatives who complained about this a bunch of cranks. But they have a point. I am paying well over $20,o00 per year to have someone learn the skills required to be a nurse, and instead they are learning about how Ronald Reagan destroyed America. It’s funny how that same line is used across the curriculum. What will folks do after the next 16 years of Democrat rule and a devolution into European style crises? Will Reagan’s “culture” of capitalism still be to blame? Or even now, folks, he left office in 1988. Do you want to tell me that 23 years is not enough time to “fix” it?

  1. Two thoughts.

    1. From what I can see, ObamaCare is clearly unconstitutional, not even a gray area. How anyone can claim it is amazes me. They must be either cretins are charlatans. Ignorant, or malevolent.

    2. It would be an understatement to say that the Left’s preoccupation with “inequality” has become a fetish.

  2. Ronald Reagan? The new blame is Bush.

I read this today, and thought it fits:
“It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a “dismal science.” But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance. Yet this sort of aggressive ignorance is inherent in the creed of anarcho-communism.” – Rothbard

  3. It’s nice to know that the nurse who’s trying to find a vein in your hand for an IV has an eye for the economic circumstances of her patients. Oops, nurses are not necessarily female. When the revolution comes and inequality has been erased, healthcare here will be as good as it is in Cuba.
