So a UK paper reported last week on the fact that global average temperatures have been on a plateau for the past 16 years. The alarmists have a conniption but actually do not refute the data. The skeptics use this as “proof” that global warming is not real. Both are idiots.

(1) The alarmists should use this as an opportunity to be clearer to the world about what we do and don;’t know about the science, and about how even a cooling for 16 years may not undermine the AGW hypothesis. They should explain what might be causing this and raise the level of discussion. Instead, I see alarmists blaming Republicans for presumably having the power to make the world not warm for 1.5 decades. That is not helpful.
(2) Skeptics have a chance to use this as an illustration of the uncertainly of our climate models and to demonstrate exactly where the actual consensus is. But of course some are running around calling Global Warming the greatest hoax of all time, which then lets the alarmists spend much of their time Straw-Manning it. It’s maddening.
(3) Ignoring “whose side” is right … has ANYONE seen any reference, anywhere, to the possibility that this is HAPPY news? I don’t care WHAT you think about global warming. If for some strange reason the planet has stopped warming, even if for a short time, even if because alien wizards cast a spell on Earth to keep it from warming more, wouldn’t that be reason to be happy? Do people actually WANT to see the planet heat up and see the damages that they are modeling? I can only conclude that the answer is yes. I feel like I am living in an Old Testament story. Please, someone, help me understand.
