A few short thoughts today:

1. My taxes increased between $1,000 and $2,000 today. How about yours?

2. If you do not have children, ought you have any legitimate input on climate change policy?

3. Within 10 years, the modern environmental movement will … (Insert your favorite prediction there)

Just when we thought Wintercow had gotten comfortable, bedding down on the straw in his dirt stall for the next few months before he is released to pasture, he excites the rest of the herd…

As Dick Cheney told Patrick Leahy, so did John Boehner tell Harry Reid to bed down, and do what it takes to make it through winter.

So first thing WC gets the juices flowing with provocative open questions.

As far as what will happen to the enviros, or any of us, in ten years, I have always thought strategic planning to be a colossal waste of time for the next year, let alone for the standard socialist five years, or the Wharton three years. More productive would be to plan for the next shift, which will always bring surprises. The more I think about this, the more I appreciate Hayek.

Regarding taxes, mine are going up, but not in the same way as WC’s. We are all going to be robbed in other ways not explicitly through taxation. Moreover, we have already been robbed unmercifully, not only of property but also of values.

One can only hope that in 10 years the modern environmental movement will realize that wind energy is a shift in pollution from A to B, and B may be worse.

Examples of this include the transfer of pollution from air to ground (e.g., neodymium mining for wind turbines) and pollution “offshoring” from say the US to China.

Without the moral high ground from the environmental movement, the American Wind Energy Association will not be able to renew the Production Tax Credit, as it was able to do 2 days ago in the fiscal cliff patch.
