I Love the 2019 Buffalo Sabres
July 23, 2013 Methodology

On a run recently I saw a car with this bumper sticker:

Now, some provisions of the PPACA have been enacted since the middle of 2010. But the major provisions of the law, such as the execution of the insurance exchanges and the deadline for individuals to have health insurance coverage or face a penalty, do not kick in until January 1, 2014. I’m sure I remember seeing these stickers even three years ago. So, how can you love something that doesn’t quite exist yet? Do we love it because of the millions of people it has covered so far? Do we love it because it has bent the health care cost curve? Do we love it because it has made American employers more competitive? Do we love it because health outcomes are improving in America?

Loving ObamaCare is a bit like me sporting an I Love the 2019 Buffalo Sabres bumper sticker. A few current players are on that team and some probably in their pipeline. But the vast majority of what that team will look like has yet to be determined. About the only basis I could seriously have for loving the 2019 Sabres is that I like their logo, and I’ve been part of their fan-base for as long as I can remember, so I am pretty much supposed to love the 2019 Buffalo Sabres.

There’s nothing right or wrong of course with loving the 2019 Sabres – but it would certainly be nice to know exactly what and why for a change.

  1. its also like saying i heart War and Peace, without ever having read a page

    • Yes, but I heart Obamacare resembles the European street signs, which are loved by so many. How many stickers do you see, even from liberals, that heart Peter Singer? Or Ben Bernancke? Not counting Krugman’s BMW.

  2. I am in love with Obama Care. Especially the free part, that cancels the part about the conservation of matter and energy. He is lovable, even when he messes my rice bowl with his slimy hands.

  3. Hey Prof, unrelated but just saw this ridiculous ad campaigning against a proposed pipeline to bring fracked gas into NYC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av_opE1-Lpk

I guess those New Yorkers really don’t want to have a chance of lowering their utility bills. Oh, and I guess the city should stop building sewage pipes, or any pipes. Since the mere existence of a pipeline seems to create all sorts of danger, regardless of what is in it.

    • David, NYC residents assume the will get a subsidy for the heating bill, if it is included in the rent, in their rent-controlled apartments.

Fracked gas is to them what one smells coming up the vent from the Seventh Avenue subway. These are the same folks who want Anthony Weiner to live in Gracie Mansion, and are crazy over Mike Bloomberg for his water fountain maintenance.

  4. A skeptic might say that this sounds like someone relying solely on faith, akin to a religion.

    • Speedmaster, I am a Flyers fan, a Phillies fan, and an Eagles fan. I can appreciate the fan loyalty of Great Lakes residents — OK, , Lakes Ontario and Erie. The fortunes of our sorry teams give us strength to comprehend that life is bigger. Let us pray for the people of Cleveland.
