Putting a ban on legal immigrants because of their religion lowers the deplorable President below any action in recent memory by US Presidents. This action certainly ranks right up there with preventing Jewish European refugees from coming to America to flee the terror of 1930s Europe.

I have always been a tremendous supporter of civil disobedience. At this moment, I think the clock is ticking closer to uncivil being in order.

On the other hand, the “ban” does not exactly seem to be how it is being reported. That said, this doesn’t end well.

Sadly, I know a lot of folks who are happy at this executive order, and we live in a world where I still can’t manage to express my disgust with this sentiment properly.

We live in a less free and less brave country today. Some say it’s been trending that way for decades, but never in my lifetime in this grotesque way.

Hear, hear wintercow. I typically try not to let things in the political realm “bother” me too much anymore on an emotional level. When I saw this news, however, a complete sense of disgust overwhelmed me.

A little over reaction? Equating preventing Jewish refugees in the 1930’s with banning Muslims until they can be properly vetted is not equivalent! Judaism does not command its followers to resort to despicable violence in order to convert non-believers, unlike the Islam religion.

EVEN IF Islam commands its followers to murder, the risk to Americans from terrorism is miniscule especially when compared to the amount of human suffering that walking down this path will cause. It doesn’t end well. Aside from the direct worry here, I a strongly in favor of a culture of respect and liberty and I do not think this is conducive to that.

“Judaism does not command its followers to resort to despicable violence in order to convert non-believers, unlike the Islam religion.” Except for all the times the Bible and the Torah command to do just that.

      Deut 7.1-2
7 “When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, and He drives out many nations before you—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and powerful than you – and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you and you defeat them, you must completely destroy them. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.”

      Deut 20:16-18
16 “But in the cities of these peoples that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes, 17 but you shall devote them to complete destruction, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, as the Lord your God has commanded, 18 that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominable practices that they have done for their gods, and so you sin against the Lord your God.”

Fortunately, we live in a more civilized time where most people tend to ignore all the hateful, genocidal, bronze-age nonsense in religious texts. Show me some well-researched evidence that Muslim immigrants commit more crimes in the US than other immigrants and native born, after controlling for gender and age, and I’ll agree to more extensive vetting. But as it stands, I favor open borders.

Jack, please read my comment carefully! Comparing Jewish refugees in the 1930’s to the Israelites over 3000 years ago is ludicrous. If Rabbi’s in the 1930’s exhorted Jews to follow the examples of your 3000+ year old out of context verses why yes, they should have been vetted.

I also favor open borders, but let’s be real. No one wants open borders to those who would stoop to murder, rape, and other violence in order to convert non-believers to their religion. Last century when immigrants landed on Ellis Island many were sent back due to various physical and mental infirmities, and yet we still had open borders then. The fact that today we want to reject “good” Muslims doesn’t mean we do not have open borders. And for your information, a “good” Muslim follows the commandments of the Koran and Hadith several verses of which command violence to non-believers.
