Now the city of Providence wants to tax college students simply for the sake of being there. You know, to make sure the students contribute to the shared prosperity of the city. I really hope it happens, I really do.
- This is what most of the students and faculty at higher education institutions advocate for everyone else, isn’t it?
- It might make people ask, are places better off or worse off for having evil, rich colleges in their communities. The city of Rochester would be doomed without UR here.
- I want to see the collectivists justify this act and at the same time argue that college is too expensive and the private markets cannot provide credit or educational opportunity, so heavy doses of government subsidies are needed.
This might be the best time ever to be an economist. So much material to teach from … and finally students are having an opportunity to taste exactly what it is they have been asking to be served up for decades. Yummy!
Note that the proposed tax only applies to students attending private, not public, institutions. I guess we’re more evil.
