False Sense of Confidence

I had a friend who used to mix Mountain Dew (diet of course) with Coffee – maybe he is next on the F.D.A.’s “hit list”:
Caffeine may lead people to underestimate how drunk they are, giving drinkers a false sense of confidence that they can perform tasks they are too impaired to undertake.
While we’re at it, let’s ban people from having a good hair day, getting the answer to Final Jeopardy or getting lucky the night before a big event.

I don’t really see the confusion here.
I order a glass, with rum, and a caffeinated beverage. The government says this is OK.
I purchase a can, with rum and a caffeinated beverage premixed. The government says this is no good.
See, isn’t that clear as day?
Wintercow is confused becauses he assumes A is A, which the government, run by the Red Queen, does not.
