A Snowball in Hell

I spilled my water when I read this.

Student GOP Group Lures Big Name to Campus — A smartly dressed and enthusiastic crowd of Amherst students turned out to hear former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) speak at Johnson Chapel on Feb. 12. Brown’s talk was sponsored by the Amherst College Republicans, in an event marking the group’s revival.

There was not of course a GOP on campus when I was there. Nor would I have joined it or wanted to create it. But for the People’s Republic of Amherst, this is quite a thing. Or maybe it’s a way for the college to say they have diverse ideas – sort of like the way they claim _____ (insert favorite canard here).

I give them credit for this. Maybe the Gene Sperling fan club are all nonresident employees occupied with more important matters, but at least the president of Amherst did not suffer an aneurism over the heathen violating the speech and dress codes. Maybe he heard about academic freedom when he went to school.
