Dear Editor,
Mr. Wendell Anderson is absolutely right that we should work to raise the wages of the poor. But bashing Mike Harmon for his opposition to the minimum wage is misguided. Higher minimum wages raise the cost of doing business and price the lowest skilled workers out of the labor force.
If Mr. Anderson truly wishes to help low-wage workers, open a business. Hire workers. This will increase the demand for workers and intensify sustainable forces that raise wage rates.
Mike Harmon should be applauded for not pontificating like every politician who secures their current jobs precisely because of their talent for shameless strutting and self-righteous speechifying.
