That’s what the folks writing for my local free newspaper say about anyone that is not poor. This again makes me chuckle, because on the same pages there are often articles conjuring up all sorts of ways to attract middle and upper income families back to the inner city and to its failing schools.
We were seriously considering living in the city … but why would I, when my wife and children and I are viewed as evil lemmings solely by virtue of our (squarely middle class) income and work ethic? Why would choose to move to a place where we are viewed as nothing more than tasty hosts for a gang of parasites? At least the folks here in Rochester are honest about their intentions, and how they view folks like me. It has made our location decision a lot easier.
