Air Mailed It

My colleague Steven Landsburg writes excellent books. These are not just words on paper, but rather he is engaged in the process of creating knowledge.  Do you think we should pass a law that bans him from also being allowed to disseminate that knowledge to paying students and colleagues?You know, because it would be oh so dangerous to have a “manufacturer” of knowledge also operate a business that disseminates it.

That’s exactly what the good folks in Congress did in the air industry with the passage of the Air Mail Act of 1934. Beyond that ridiculous provision, there is another nice history lesson in there. Does anyone hold the government accountable for the air mail deaths in the early 1930s? You know what they say about making an Omelette …
