Last year, 99.7% of Florida’s public school teachers were deemed satisfactory. Let’s put that in perspective. Saddam “only” got 99% of the vote in his last election. Our students here at the U of R would probably give less than 3/4 of our teachers a satisfactory ranking – and we all have PhDs and expertise in far more areas than the typical public school teacher. Or how about other perspective – my students are all from backgrounds and majors that put them in an intellectual level above that of the typical teacher (future posts will show this data) and I would only say that 3/4 of my students are performing at levels that I could call “satisfactory.”
So, for all you public school parents and students – do you really believe that 997 out of every 1000 public school teachers are doing an “OK” job? How about an excellent job? The teachers unions are nothing more than common thugs – except they are entrepreneurial thugs – they outsource the guns to people that they sweet-talk at cocktail parties the night before.
I’ve found it funny that I can teach an econ course at a college, but cannot do the same thing at a grade or high school. Thanks to our government, a lot of people are pretty much thugs and thieves (I would include myself).
Two quotes I like.
When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start
representing the interests of school children.
— Albert Shanker, Former President of the American Federation of Teachers
If you said, “I believe in the separation of church and state,” most Americans would agree completely. But if you said, “For the same reasons, I believe in the separation of school and state and the separation of healthcare and state,” most Americans would consider you a kook. Go figure.
— Dr. Robert Higgs
Fun facts, and fun comments, although I hope Michael is not a thug or a thief. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
Special Mention to Speedmaster for providing illuminating, pertinent quotations.
I wouldn’t consider myself a thug so much, but I do take advantage of some things I’m “entitled” to recieve. Even though it isn’t much, and most people would argue I’ve earned it, it’s still something I get from the legal theft of the government. I also consider the Social Security system to be legal theft, too. You’d have to put on blinders to consider it an honest investment.
