40 Days

After we had this meeting the “Go Green” logo is still prominently displayed. Oh, and it has to be at least 20 days since a soul has even sat down at it, much less charged something at it.

That $12,000 picnic table should be part of the standard campus tour, along with the library and the I.M. Pei building. Put it on runners, and you could use it for ice fishing.

  2. Rod says:

I’m waiting to see a photo of the bench entirely covered by snow, in the coming Rochester winter.

It would be great for ice fishing if it had a Green Building around it, with room inside for a potbelly stove.

Summertime, what was bought was a politically correct picnic table. My price tag overstated the expenditure by $500 because I recalled the price tag from memory, rather than go back to Wintercow’s memorable article. It is a solar picnic table that provides outlets to plug in your wireless device, so you can read theunbrokenwindow.com, which has links to Coyote, et al.

One of the points about this table was that it did not cost a mere $1500. Had the university given the project to a couple of electrical engineering students who had taken shop in eighth grade, $1500 would have been enough to do the job and have enough left over for a case of root beer, or whatever the math students drink.

The other point is that this showpiece was put not at the University of Arizona, but at the University of Rochester, which gets lake effect weather. It could have been worse, though. Could have been Buffalo or Erie.

Has it snowed in Rochester yet? Sub-zero temperatures tend to prevent people from sitting outside on their laptops.

The legend at RIT is that we bought out campus design from a school that was supposed to be build in Arizona. That’s why its designed with wide open spaces that act like a wind-tunnel; its supposed to create a breeze. Maybe U of R pulled off the same trick, and forgot that Rochester is cold for 90% of the school year.

  5. Harry says:

Rich knows about the climate along the Great Lakes, and knows how to engineer a solar picnic table.

What I am looking for is a reply from Summer, who gratuitously posted an article about Albany investing in politically correct envirorntal social projects. It would be good if Summer, should he/she have the courage, to engage us in the point. All of Rizzo’s readers and students encourage others who have a contrary opinion to state it. None of us will bite Summer’s head off, even if Summer is Chuck Schumer. The reason why we read Wintercow’s blog is that he is nice to us, and is the Enerziger Bunny of ideas. Since you weighed in, summer, let’s hear what you have to say.

  6. sherlock says:

Harry, I think Summer is trying to say that Rochester “bought” good environment press.
