I’m not in church today (on the road home), but a former student of mine emailed me the other day about a contentious dinner-table discussion he had. It reminded me of this, which of course is appropriate for a Sunday. In 2009 green beliefs were awarded legal protection in England:
Employees who raise concerns about their company’s environmental practices won the right to legal redress yesterday after a judge ruled that green beliefs deserved the same protection in the workplace as religious convictions.
Perhaps strangely, I think folks forget that this “protection” rubs the other way, no? If your “green belief” is that pillaging the planet’s resources is the highest moral imperative, and your firm fired you for it, would you be protected? But it is nice to see the emperor’s clothes.
