Not much political campaigning here in the DPRNYS. For the scant few commercials we see (actually, haven’t flipped on the TV much, so maybe there IS advertising, you wonder who that is reaching these days), I get the sense that politicians are going to help us “get back our jobs” … which is all well and good. But at the same time, I have flyers from politicians in my mailbox that are suggesting that businesses are misers who treat their employees crappily by not providing time off for maternity, better health benefits, and so on.

So, is it possible to square these ideas? On the one hand, our political and popular cultures lament the fact that jobs are lost due to technology (and maybe trade). On the other hand, those jobs were horrible and the firms greedily exploited these very workers, yet we want to do everything in our power to get those jobs back?

Color me puzzled.

One Response to “Exploitation is Bad, So, More Cowbell”

Simple. we only want the good jobs back. And the ones we get back will be good. And if they are not, we shall make them so
