Disagreeing to agree is a far better way to proceed than “agreeing to disagree” if in fact folks are having a scientific discussion. In the latter, you would be acknowledging that there are no deeper and absolute truths to seek out. In the former, you engage in argument in the same spirit as JS Mill until you whittle down to exactly what you are disagreeing about, and come up with conditions or evidence that would satisfy the disagreement.
