Election Season Reminder
As a tax-exempt entity, the University must abide by federal and state laws prohibiting the use of its facilities, funds, email, personnel, or other resources to promote or support individuals or organizations campaigning for public office. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to be active and engaged citizens. However, PERSON, senior vice president and general counsel, reminds the University community that when speaking out on political issues, if they mention their University association, they should make clear that the views expressed are their own and not intended to represent the University. Individuals may not use any University resources for political purposes. For more information, see Human Resources Policy 112 or contact the Office of Government and Community Relations.
I bolded and highlighted that sentence near the end. This is but one illustration of the absurdity of many of our “laws.”
